The dragons are dancing already.

Summary:

  • House of the Dragon is among the contenders on this year's Emmys race
  • A recent report by The Hollywood Reporter had a member of the TV Academy’s Producers Peer Group admitting they aren't even going to watch the Game of Thrones prequel
  • House of the Dragon fans are shocked by the member's brutal honesty

Spinoffs of massively popular shows are not always highly successful, but with House of the Dragon, this was exactly the case — many Game of Thrones fans were delighted to see what they saw. Season 1 of the prequel gained massive fan love, with some people already arguing it can potentially dethrone its mother show as HBO's greatest.

However, some Emmy voters appear to disagree. At least that's what fans are gathering from the recent The Hollywood Reporters article, in which a member of the TV Academy’s Producers Peer Group straightforwardly admitted they could bother to watch House of the Dragon in full.

"You couldn’t pay me to watch House of the Dragon — I was a Game of Thrones person, but I watched 10 minutes of this and read the reviews and it just seemed like a money grab," reads the anonymous source's "brutally honest ballot" as told by Scott Feinberg.

Lightly speaking, House of the Dragon fans are not having it. According to them, it's a pretty weird argument coming from an actual Emmys voter — no matter how engaging the nominated shows are for them personally, it's almost like they have to watch them more carefully in order to provide objective reviews.

"Why does their vote count if they aren’t watching the show? That’s like a food critic that doesn’t try the dish served to them," Redditor SurpriseEnouement noted.

Many fans slammed the ballot as unprofessional, while others took it as yet another proof to never trust critics' scores. Others noted that House of the Dragon is not the only show snubbed by Emmys.

"They have been snubbing Better Call Saul for years now despite it being a masterpiece probably for the same reason," said Redditor AxeCaesar.

Will House of the Dragon Win an Emmy This Year?

No matter what fans think of the "brutally honest ballot" on House of the Dragon, one has to admit that this year's Emmys race is highly competitive — the Game of Thrones prequel will try and snatch the award from acclaimed hits like The Last of Us, The Crown, The White Lotus, and Succession.

While fans feel that the voter's approach to ranking House of the Dragon is not entirely correct, many argue that the Game of Thrones prequel is unlikely to win Best Drama Series.

Delayed due to the Hollywood strikes, the Emmys ceremony will finally air on January 15.
