Scrubs revival season 2 premiere date and how to watch: ABC is doubling up on night one
Sacred Heart reopens tonight with two episodes, a health scare for its most bulletproof character, and one conspicuous absence at the chief's desk.
The when and where, up top: Scrubs season 2 premieres tonight — Wednesday, September 30 — at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC, and the network is airing two episodes back-to-back before settling into a weekly one-per-Wednesday rhythm. Every episode streams on Hulu the next day; Canadians get it via CTV, with Disney+ and Crave to follow. Ten episodes this season, and ABC has every reason to feed the machine: the revival's first premiere drew 11.36 million viewers cross-platform and became the network's best comedy telecast in over a year.
The story: Dr. Cox is the patient now
The season 2 trailer hangs the season on a premise the original show never dared: Dr. Cox has a worsening health crisis, and the doctor treating him is J.D. Zach Braff has been previewing exactly how that inversion plays without softening the whole point of the pairing:

"Dr. Cox, if he ever gives J.D. a compliment, has to follow it [with] 20 insults. So that dynamic is still in place."
Though he admits the illness cracks something open:
"Occasionally, when Dr. Cox is scared... he can't help but be really honest and say that he needs J.D."
Who's in, who's out
- The core trio — Braff, Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison — return as exec-producing leads, with Ava Bunn promoted to series regular as resident Sam Tosh. Chalke's scouting report: "She's a spectacular actress. She's so funny."
- John C. McGinley recurs as Cox — Braff promises more Johnny C. this year than last — alongside Judy Reyes, Neil Flynn's Janitor, Robert Maschio's Todd, Vanessa Bayer, and Rachel Bilson
- Christa Miller guests as Jordan, which the Cox storyline all but legally required
- Out: Joel Kim Booster and X Mayo, whose residents won't return, and Ken Jenkins' Kelso remains absent — Braff has been discouraging on that front
