Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday has a bright future to look forward to on Netflix, but fans aren’t sure the streamer’s dynamics is just right for Tim Burton’s horror-ish show.
A lot of things happen faster than Netflix drops another season of the Jenna Ortega-led Wednesday — including the show’s renewal for a third instalment, just a couple of weeks before season 2 premiere.
After Wednesday’s first instalment was released back in 2022, not much was being revealed about the show’s next steps, with the first teasers for season 2 arriving just recently.
However, now that Wednesday has at least one more season to stay with on Netflix, as The Hollywood Reporter has just confirmed, there might be something more to explore in Wednesday’s cinematic universe — and fans are having doubts on whether they will get to see it.
‘Wednesday’ Spinoff Series Is In Early Discussions
Apart from the fact that the TV series is yet to follow Wednesday’s adventures in the already greenlit season 3 — which was confirmed by the show’s duo Jenna Ortega and Tim Burton during the interview — Netflix is currently considering more options for delving into Nevermore Academy’s world.
As Wednesday’s showrunner Alfred Gough revealed, the streamer has already come up with several ideas for a potential spinoff series, the details of which, however, will remain a top secret for now.
“It’s something we’re definitely noodling; there are other characters we can look at”, he said.
While Wednesday’s season 3 and possible spinoff are still far away from being brought to the screen, the upcoming second instalment still has quite many ways to surprise its viewers, according to Jenna Ortega.
“Netflix has a lot more trust this time around. So we were able to do things on a grander scale and were able to spend more time on sequences. There are also a lot of new cast members like Steve Buscemi and Billie Piper, and doing a scene with them pushes you further because they’re so gifted”, the actress revealed during the interview.
‘Wednesday’ Fans Aren’t Really Happy About Season 3 News
Even though there’s now no need to wait for a renewal after Wednesday’s season 2 arrives in August, some of the show’s fans aren’t really sure they needed this news anyway.
“I'm looking forward to season two, but Netflix really needs to get their act together in terms of getting the following seasons out the door. I know actors like Ortega are in great demand, and want to do other projects as well, but this is only eight episodes”, Redditor 0ttoChriek complained in a thread.
“Is Ortega going to be playing Morticia by the time it comes out?” deutschdachs commented sarcastically while egorre simply put “see y'all in 3 years”.
Other fans focused more on the spinoff news, remembering that Wednesday is, well, also some sort of spinoff of The Addams Family.
“But... Wednesday is a spinoff of the Adam's Family... we're into spin-ception now”, 240Nordey noted.
“Who wants to guess what the spinoff could be? I'm going with Young Uncle Fester or an origin story for Thing, showing how he became a walking hand”, MuptonBossman suggested.
In the meantime, Wednesday’s season 2 is coming to Netflix in two parts, with both volumes being released on August 6 and September 3 respectively.
