Severance Season 2: Is Helena an Innie Now? 5 Reasons She Is & 5 Reasons It's Helly
At the moment, both theories seem plausible.
On January 17, Apple TV+ launched the second season of Severance, one of the most unusual, strange, and exciting shows in recent years.
Warning: heavy spoilers for Severance season 2 ahead!
In the new season, Mark's innie wakes up in the hallway of Lumon. Seth Milchick, who replaced Cobel as boss, tells him that five months have passed since their uprising. According to the boss, only Mark's outie agreed to return, the rest refused. The man gets a new team.
Mark sabotages his duties and demands the return of his friends. Soon they appear. But surprisingly, Helly doesn't talk about what she saw outside.
Does she have a motivation to lie, or was her outie, Helena, sent to the office instead of Helly? Reddit users have found arguments for both sides.
1. She Ran Out of the Elevator
It's Helly: At the end of the first season, Helly, who was giving a speech on stage, was attacked. So the fact that she almost fell out of the open elevator confirms that it was Helly.
Moreover, her lie about the gardener did not imply such an emotional reaction when she returned to the office.
It's Helena: According to fans, this reaction looked fake and overly emotional, as if the woman was deliberately preparing to look nervous upon returning from the outside world.
2. She Didn't Hug Mark Back Right Away
It's Helly: Again, Helly was overwhelmed by the recent events she had experienced in the outside world, and her slow reaction to Mark's embrace was a consequence of the shock.
It's Helena: According to the innies timeline, Mark and Helly kissed a few hours ago, so such a strange reaction to the hug gives the woman away as Helena, who has never had a relationship with Mark or even spoken to him.
3. She Lied About What She Saw Outside the Office
It's Helly: Fans speculate that Helly feels guilty after learning the truth about her identity. She found herself at the head of this monstrous corporation that was ruining her friends' lives.
To hide this fact, Helly came up with the lie about the gardener – she didn't have time to come up with something more convincing, so she said the first thing that came to mind.
It's Helena: As we saw, Helena treats the innies with arrogance and contempt, so she didn't even try to come up with a more plausible version – it seems to her that the innies are so stupid that they won't be suspicious of this lie.
4. She Couldn't Find Her Computer's Switch
It's Helly: Even though Helly had been in the department for three weeks, it was still a relatively short time compared to Mark and the others who had been working at Lumon for several years. As a result, she hadn't developed the muscle memory to find the switch.
It's Helena: For the past three weeks, Helly's life has consisted entirely of working at this desk and this computer. If it were really Helly, she would have found the switch right away.
5. She Came Back to MRD in the First Place
It's Helly: It seems that after such an incident, Lumon's superiors should have abandoned the experiment with Helena's innie. On the other hand, Helly returned even when she almost committed suicide – that is, almost killed the heiress of Kier Eagan.
Maybe Lumon's management or Helena herself have special plans for Helly that are worth such a risk.
It's Helena: Sending Helly back to the office would be too risky, so Helena decided to take her place and become a kind of "mole." She studied her innie's life from the camera footage so that Helena would know everything that happened to Helly.
