‘Severance’ Season 3 Will Arrive Sooner Than You Thought, Apple TV+ Exec Teases

While fans had to wait three years in between seasons 1 and 2, this might not be the case for Severance’s third instalment after all.
Apple TV+’s pride and joy, Severance is yet to be celebrated at the upcoming Emmy ceremony with a whopping amount of 27 nominations, but there's a much longer wait for the show’s fans until they see how that major cliffhanger is resolved.
After the first season’s release back in 2022, it took Severance three years to get a second instalment, mostly due to the massive strikes that engulfed Hollywood in 2023.
Even though the show’s producer Ben Stiller has repeatedly reassured Severance’s fans that the third season’s production won’t be delayed for this much, many still fear they’ll have to look for the plot recaps by the time the next instalment arrives on Apple TV+.
The streamer’s exec doesn’t think so though.
Apple TV+’s Matt Cherniss Says ‘Severance’ Will Soon Get Production Start Date
It’s been several months since the show’s second season came to its end in March, but so far nothing has been clear about the third season’s progress — however, some recent updates do suggest that Severance’s team is quietly working on the next episodes.
As Apple TV+ programming head Matt Cherniss revealed in an interview with Variety, the show’s cast and crew is doing everything possible to make the gap in between the seasons shorter than three years.
“I know they’re going as quickly as they can. When you have the success that a show like ‘Severance’ has, you want to make sure you deliver on every level when the show comes back, and that takes some time. But they’re on it”, Cherniss said, also adding that the streamer is also working to determine the third season’s production start date as soon as possible.
‘Severance’ Dan Erickson Hopes to Finish the Show Before He’s 70
Even though Cherniss highlighted that no one wants the 3-year gap to become some sort of normal pattern, the show’s creator Dan Erickson might be exploring the Lumon Industries’ hidden corners for longer than many expected.
Ahead of Severance season 2 finale premiere in March, Erickson revealed he would do everything possible to not make the series last for decades.
“I would love to finish the show before I’m 70, I would hope that season 3 comes sooner. Certainly a big part of it was the fact that we had the strikes which shut us down for five or six months for production”, the showrunner said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
Erickson’s comment also got a lot of attention from fans who reminded that he’s only 41, so the statement isn’t really that reassuring amidst all the fears about the third season.
