Shrek 5 Animation Gets Fixed After Controversial Teaser, but There’s a Catch

The upcoming movie’s first teaser now holds a record-breaking number of negative reactions after its release last week.
A long-awaited continuation of the beloved long-standing franchise, Shrek 5 turned out to be a major disappointment more than a year before its theatrical release.
The upcoming movie is currently set to hit theatres in December of 2026, but the first teaser is already here to give an early sneak peek into what’s in store for the next chapter, though there might be nothing else but controversies.
That said, fans were shocked to find out that the beloved animation style had now seemingly gone forever and the future movie just generally doesn’t feel like a part of the franchise still adored by millions across the world. However, the issue didn’t take much time to get fixed, despite the movie’s creators not taking part in this at all.
Shrek 5 Teaser Gets Fixed by a Fan
While the next instalment’s creators might be coming up with a plan on how to deal with harsh criticism, the franchise’s fans are quick to solve the problem — but only on social media.
On TikTok, an ambitious fan @delospen_ offered a new look at the recently reimagined Shrek, bringing back some features that characterised the franchise’s old animation style.

The update quickly received a 100% approval from the platform’s other users as @TRAPSTARR confidently stated that “Bro saved the whole movie in under a min”.
“You are correct. They also smoothed out the skins too much. They look way too clean. No more pores, pocks… it’s odd looking”, @Kitara Gotham added, while some others urged Shrek’s fandom to create a petition that would demand those changes applied to the actual movie.
Shrek 5 Might Still Be Fixed For Real — Sonic The Hedgehog Is the Proof
Despite that option being more an exception rather than a rule, Shrek 5 might actually get an animation update after fans’ outrage, and another animated franchise proved it to be true years ago.
Now one of the most successful movies series financially and critically, Sonic the Hedgehog also received major backlash back in the day when the studio tried making its titular character more humanlike and thus realistic, which caused a controversial reaction from fans that wanted to see Sonic just the way he is in the original video games.
Piled with urges to make changes before the franchise fails to find fans’ appeal, Sonic’s creators ultimately redesigned the character and guaranteed the future film series raving success with both critics and audiences.
Additionally, it did seem like Sonic The Hedgehog’s team learned the lesson as the franchise’s official TikTok account recently made an attempt to talk their colleagues into doing the same for Shrek 5, posting a video with the original version of Sonic and a caption that says “For any green ogres looking for advice”.
