Sydney Sweeney to Star in Split Fiction Movie Greenlit Less Than 2 Months After Game Release

The popular game is set to have a full feature film with Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney starring in it. The fans are surprised, but for what reasons? Let’s find out.
Sydney Sweeney is set to star in the upcoming hit video game Split Fiction movie adaptation from director Jon M. Chu.
According to Variety, the script for the movie is being written by Deadpool & Wolverine screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
The Split Fiction film will be produced by Mike Goldberg and Dmitri M. Johnson's Story Kitchen and Chu's Electric Somewhere. Sweeney herself will also serve as executive producer.
Why Is Split Fiction Movie Even Happening (& So Fast)?
Split Fiction is an action-adventure game developed by Hazelight Studios and published by Electronic Arts that was released earlier this year on March 6. That’s exactly what makes the news about its movie adaptation so shocking. Usually only big names get an opportunity to be turned into full feature movies — for instance, Sonic the Hedgehog, The Last of Us, and Fallout.
“The game hasn't even been out 2 months and it's already got a movie adaptation in the works?” one Redditor said.
However, the ratings and the acclaim the game got may be the reason why Hollywood seems so eager to make a movie out of it. As Variety mentioned before, the game sold more than 2 million copies in the first week of its launch.
Besides, the game comes from the creators of It Takes Two — another major gaming hit about two parents who are trapped in doll bodies in the middle of divorce.
Split Fiction mixes fantasy and sci-fi together. The game explores the lives of two authors, Mio and Zoe, who eventually become trapped in the worlds they have written. It has split-screen combat, platforming challenges, and different abilities for each character — pretty much like in It Takes Two.
It's still unclear who Sydney Sweeney will play: Zoe or Mio.
Sydney Sweeney in Split Fiction Has Fans in Awe
“So Sydney Sweeney is starring in a video game adaptation from the director of Wicked and the writers of Deadpool? Holy sh*t, this might be the most Hollywood movie ever made,” Redditor Lonely-Freedom4986 said.
“Sidney Sweeney is booked until her late 50s. Also, kinda incredible how videogame projects are being greenlit that fast. Split Fiction is a couple months old. Hollywood is really surfing this as the next big wave,” Redditor jnighy said.
