Sometimes the main actors can leave the series due to disagreements or simply due to fatigue with the role.

But this does not always mean that the show is doomed to an early end.

With Kevin Costner rumored to be leaving Yellowstone, fans were left wondering if the show even could go on without the main character?

Well, the long history of TV shows proves that this is possible. Here are some examples of the series that have continued after the main star left to give hope to Yellowstone fans.

The Office – Steve Carell

Steve Carell was rightfully the soul of the show and a favorite character for many fans. While his departure from the show upset many, and the farewell episode broke more than a few hearts, such a twist seemed more than logical.

Steve's hero, Michael Scott, had a resolution to his problems and the beginning of a new phase in his life. The reason for his departure was the indifference of the show's creators and the studio, which didn't even offer the actor a new contract after the old one expired.

But even after its main star left, The Office was able to bounce back and keep ratings high until the very end.

Fans are happy to see the show end on a high note. It would be much sadder to see the show die because the idea ran out of steam.

Two And A Half Men – Charlie Sheen

The sitcom Two and a Half Men was once the most popular show on television, and Charlie Sheen was the highest-paid TV star.

However, the story of the hero Charlie ended in a loud scandal – the studio fired the actor, as the shooting of the series was repeatedly disrupted due to his inappropriate behavior.

The studio came out of this ugly situation with maximum profit. The main character was killed off and replaced by Ashton Kutcher, who played the billionaire who bought Charlie's house.

All of this only served to increase the popularity and viewership of the sitcom.

The Vampire Diaries – Nina Dobrev

The Vampire Diaries was one of the most successful vampire series at the time.

Elena Gilbert, who for many seasons couldn't decide between the two Salvatore brothers, was at the center of the plot and the series was unimaginable without her.

But in the end, fans' worst fear came to life. Following the conclusion of Season 6, fans learned that Nina Dobrev would not be returning to the show.

When the news first broke, many speculated that Nina's departure from the show was due to a break-up with her co-star Ian Somerhalder.

However, Nina later denied the rumors and said that she was just tired and ready to move on to a new stage in her career.

After Nina's leaving, the show continued to run successfully for two more seasons, and actress appeared in the final episode, which left many fans heartbroken.
