Long story short: there was nothing but rumors all along.

Ever since his huge breakout moment in 2014, Taron Egerton has been asked about his future ambition to join another comic universe.

Kingsman: The Secret Service was a huge success and gained a huge fanbase, so it seemed like a matter of time before the newfound celebrity would sign a contract with Marvel or DC.

Although there were never official reports of any negotiations between Marvel Studios producers and Egerton's team, this became a running joke on the internet.

For a while, fans didn't have any confirmation of any meetings, but recently, with another bunch of internet speculations, the actor decided to speak out.

At this point, every X-man fan was trying to think of an actor that could perfectly fit for the iconic Wolverine role.

As much as many would love Hugh Jackman to return, there seemed to be very little chance of that, so viewers started to suggest their ideas.

Taron Egerton just happened to become a perfect fit. From fanart to even comic book author Mark Millar endorsing the actor for the part, it all went too far, so Egerton finally told the public the truth.

"I took a general meeting with Kevin about four years ago, where I said I love the movies, I would love to do something. There was a character I mentioned in that meeting, but it wasn't that one, so that puts it in perspective," he said in the interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

This should've been the end of the story but it seems like some fans are not ready to part with this idea. Egerton, on the other side, admits that he has already let this ship sail, and does not count on getting the role.

Moreover, he himself would not be as excited about it today, as he probably would a year ago.

"I think maybe I'm past the point where that felt like the right thing," says the actor to Total Film magazine, hoping to close this chapter of internet rumors.

Thankfully, fans will still have a lot of possibilities to see Taron Egerton on their screens. The actor highly enjoys his work on Apple Plus projects, like Black Bird and Firebug, which is said to come out at the end of 2023.
