This cinematic universe lacks that Sharkboy energy, huh?

Summary

  • Jensen Ackles ' Soldier Boy returned in a brief cameo in The Boys ' spinoff, Gen V, as a figment of Cate's imagination
  • However, early drafts had Twilight star Taylor Lautner appearing there instead of Ackles' now-iconic character
  • Despite ditching the idea, The Boys creators hope Lautner would be interested in joining Gen V season 2

As impossible as "Taylor Lautner instead of Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy in Gen V" sounds, that's exactly what almost happened in The Boys' spinoff.

Even though there's hardly a single The Boys fan who wasn't happy to see Ackles' twisted Captain America back in Gen V, the showrunners considered an entirely different cameo. And yes, Twilight star Taylor Lautner could have been officially introduced into The Boys universe — but in a way that would most likely make everyone roll their eyes.

Speaking with Variety, Gen V's Michele Fazekas and Eric Kripke have revealed that Lautner could've appeared in Cate's mind as her "crush," according to the early drafts.

The early draft in question sounds mind-blowing in the worst way possible.

"In one of the early drafts of the script, it was meant to be a guide in Cate’s mind that shows up, lays out a couple of rules, and then explodes. If I remember correctly, in the earliest drafts it was Taylor Lautner. And the characters were wandering through the woods, and then they’re like, “Taylor Lautner?!” And he’s like, “Ya, I’m Cate’s crush! Cate used to masturbate to me. Anyway, here’s the rules.” And then he blows up," Kripke told Variety.

What can one say except "thank you guys so much for ditching that idea after all"?

Will Taylor Lautner Be in Gen V Season 2?

However, even though the Jacob Black actor never made it into the first season of Gen V, it looks like The Boys' masterminds are on board with the idea of him signing up for future chapters of the story.

According to Kripke, the Variety interview might be the one to break the news to Taylor himself; but it doesn't mean that the team is not open for working together in the future.

"My secret hope is he’s going to realize his managers never brought this to him, and then make a change," Kripke said, only for Fazekas to add: "And then maybe be like, 'Second season, I would want to be in!'"

Well, the early draft of the Cate's mind scene envisaged Lautner there as himself; who knows, maybe, if the actor is indeed interested in signing up for season 2 of Gen V, the showrunner might come up with a supe persona for him to portray!

Just please, let it not be Sharkboy from the 2000s classic The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl. Or maybe that's exactly what the world needs to heal...
