The Oscar-nominated movie suddenly received a second life 10 years after its release.

Before finding his new purpose in directing and later on helming Paramount+’s massive hits like Yellowstone and Landman, Taylor Sheridan was starting off as a versatile actor and a talented writer.

Despite not coming on board as a director at first, Sheridan helped several filmmakers reach never-seen-before success that would ultimately result in their own breakthrough moments.

This was the case when Yellowstone’s creator drafted a script for an action crime thriller directed by Denis Villeneuve, who has now reached even higher levels of fame thanks to helming the Timothée Chalamet-led sci-fi hit Dune and its sequel.

The movie in question, however, was released all the way back in 2015 and received universal acclaim, including several nods from the Academy. Ten years later, it’s back on track after entering Netflix ’s American top chart.

Sicario Is Netflix’s Top Movie in the US

Sheridan and Villeneuve’s collaborative work has once again proved its timeless hit status among audiences as the movie is currently sitting at the 9th position in Netflix’s US top chart and has remained one of the streamer’s most-watched movies for more than 10 days straight, according to FlixPatrol.

Starring Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin, Sicario follows Blunt’s idealistic FBI agent Kate Macer who, after proving herself in the male-dominated field, embarks on a mission to bring down the leader of a powerful Mexican drug cartel that has been trying to seize the control over the U.S.-Mexican border for a while now.

With a group of other agents led by former Mexican prosecutor Alejandro, Kate travels back and forth to the border, trying to make one cartel boss lead them to a bigger one.

Sicario Is Still Taylor Sheridan’s Best Movie

Even though he wasn’t the one to direct the film after all, Taylor Sheridan still proved Sicario owes its major success to the script he wrote.

The movie was a blast in the box office, grossing $85 million against the budget of $35 million; it was later nominated for the Oscars in the Best Cinematography, Best Original Score and Best Sound Editing categories, but eventually didn’t win any.

Praised for Sheridan’s writing, Villeneuve’s directing and the leading cast’s performances, Sicario is still going strong, holding 92% and 85% of positive reviews from critics and audiences respectively on Rotten Tomatoes.
