The Baguette Pizza Trick: How to Make a Super Crispy Dinner on a Dollar Store Budget
And it will be ready in just 20 minutes.
When someone has a thought of making pizza at home, the fear of spending hours on mixing the dough starts growing, eventually leading to a takeout pizza arriving for the dinner table.
However, with this recipe, you won’t have to worry about the pizza dough at all — just use simple baguette as the base for the pizza, and you’re all set for the simplest and most delicious dinner (also consider making this for breakfast).
Here’s what you need: 1/2 loaf of sliced bread (approx. 200 g), 3 tablespoons of tomato sauce (or ketchup), 100 g of hard cheese, 100 g of sausage (ham/sausages), ½ of an onion (optional), 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise (optional), a few sprigs of fresh herbs (dill/parsley).
Slice half the loaf lengthwise, like a book, to create two long trays with the crust on the bottom and the soft crumb on top. You can also cut the loaf into 1.5–2 cm thick slices and arrange them tightly on a baking sheet — this way, the pizza will be served in individual portions.
Spread tomato sauce over the soft crumb (mix it with mayonnaise if you like it richer). Don’t skimp on the sauce; the loaf absorbs it well.
Peel and finely dice the onion (if using).
Slice the sausage into thin rounds or strips.
Spread the onion and sausage evenly over the greased surface.
Grate the cheese using a coarse grater and sprinkle generously on top.
Preheat the oven to 200 °C. Place the loaf on a baking sheet (or on a rack lined with foil). Bake for 7–10 minutes; look for melted cheese with a light golden crust and crispy edges on the loaf.
Tip: if you want the bottom to be extra crispy, brush it with a thin layer of vegetable oil before placing it on the baking sheet.
