'The First Lady' is a new Showtime series telling the stories of the three iconic presidential wives of America: Betty Ford (Michelle Pfeiffer), Eleanor Roosevelt (Gillian Anderson) and Michelle Obama (Viola Davis).

It seems that Davis' portrayal of Michelle Obama in 'The First Lady' did not sit well with… well, pretty much everyone on Twitter.

One of the major problems with Viola's take on Mrs. Obama was the facial expressions, according to the many fans who are now fuming so much that Davis' name is storming the Twitter trends.

And you know that when Twitter hates something, it is quickly being turned into a meme.

It looks like people themselves are surprised by an unexpectedly bizarre performance delivered by Davis, who is praised as one of the most outstanding actresses of her time.

Still, some people are defending Viola's performance as an attempt to actually get Michelle's facial expressions right.

Davis herself said at the show's premiere that she had a lot of fears about portraying Michelle Obama, but assured she did not "want to insult her and have her calling me."

"I gotta make the sister look good. I just hope that it lands with her," Davis said at the premiere, as cited by Vanity Fair.

'The First Lady' premiered on Showtime on April 17. The series is slated to have 10 episodes, with the show's finale hitting the screens on June 19.
