Season 3 was one hell of an emotional rollercoaster, especially for the fans of Billy Butcher.

After three seasons of a wild ride that included hunting down powerful supes, dealing with family drama, and even injecting himself with Temp V, Karl Urban 's Billy Butcher has been left with around a year to live in the end of season 3.

Oi, we all knew that messing with Temp V could lead to fatal consequences, so Butcher's limited remaining time alive is not exactly a surprise, no matter how painful it is.

Another thing is that Butcher has plenty of things to finish: his wife's son, Ryan, is now with Homelander; and it's not like all the other evil Supes and their minions are handled.

With all that in mind, season 4 will definitely be bittersweet for Butcher, no matter how exactly the writers choose to break out hearts into pieces. Either Billy will go all noble-hero mode and sacrifice himself for the big mission, or, on the contrary, will continue with the scorched earth scenario, actor Karl Urban only has one request for his character: give the guy something new!

"I would be very interested to take the character into a new direction for sure [...] It's important to me that the character has a strong utility, and that whatever story we do tell going forward adds something new not only to the world of 'The Boys, ' but to Butcher's character," he told Men's Health.

Season 3 has left Butcher with Homelander set loose, and Soldier Boy back in captivity. Moreover, Homelander being let to live (and, you know, do all things Homelander's twisted mind is undoubtedly up to) is kind of Butcher's fault, since he changed the plan at the last second only to save Ryan.

Ryan, for his part, decided to side with Homelander, and season 3 finale hinted that this decision may lead to The Boys having two Homelanders (and we know that one is already too many).

Season 4 premiere remains to be announced, since The Boys creators decided to delay it in solidarity with the ongoing writers' and actors' strikes.
