The Buccaneers season 3 release date: all signs point to 2027 on Apple TV — and Paul Wesley arrives as the stranger who upends Nan's world
Apple renewed the show faster than ever and the cast has already wrapped. The math still says you're waiting more than a year.
There's no official date yet, but the cast has done the announcing for Apple. When The Buccaneers season 3 wrapped filming in August, Alisha Boe posted the set photos with a caption that settles the question: "See u in 2027." Apple TV hasn't contradicted her, and the production calendar backs her up.
The timeline so far, for the record:
- October 2025: Apple renews the show, just two months after the season 2 finale — fast by this franchise's standards, since season 2 itself took about 19 months to arrive.
- February 27, 2026: Deadline reveals Paul Wesley has joined the cast, and Apple posts video of him in costume: "Formally inviting him in."
- August 2026: Filming wraps; Boe calls 2027.
Period dramas of this scale typically need ten months to a year of post-production, which puts season 3 somewhere in mid-2027. If Apple wants to repeat the show's summer berth, June or July 2027 is the safest bet.
The stranger
Wesley — Stefan Salvatore for eight seasons of The Vampire Diaries, most recently Captain Kirk on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds — plays Frank, officially described as a mysterious but charming stranger who arrives into Nan and Mrs. St. George's world and turns it upside down. The set photos paired him with Christina Hendricks' Patty St. George, which is its own tease: a charming unknown orbiting Nan's mother, in a show that already detonated one family secret about who Nan's parents really are.

He walks into a board that season 2 left in pieces: Richard dead at his own brother's hands, and Tintagel's future suddenly uncertain under new management. Creator Katherine Jakeways, who writes the season (Rachel Leiterman and Amy Neil direct), has been happy to promise escalation:
"This new bad-boy Duke is about to sink the ship."
— Katherine Jakeways, series creator, via Apple's announcement
Her fuller pitch: the Americans arrived in England navigating first loves, and season 3 finds them hunting for the loves of their lives, together, while polite society copes with a Duke worse than any of them.

Who's confirmed, who's a question mark
Kristine Frøseth, Alisha Boe, Josie Totah, Aubri Ibrag, and Imogen Waterhouse all appear in the wrap photos, and Hendricks, Guy Remmers, Matthew Broome, and Barney Fishwick are expected back. The open questions are Mia Threapleton, whose profile has exploded since The Phoenician Scheme, and Leighton Meester, season 2's big addition — neither has been confirmed for the new season.
Apple renewed The Buccaneers in two months. The audience still waits two years between seasons — that's the period-drama tax.
