The wait will worth it.

Summary:

  • Superman & Lois is The CW's action television series based on the DC characters Superman and Lois Lane.
  • The show is now heading into its fourth and final season.
  • According to The CW's spring schedule, Superman & Lois won't be coming back just yet due to many time-consuming post-production processes.

If you did not enjoy The CW's rebranding, which canceled a good half of its previous lineup, know that the network's last standing superhero show will be giving you a glimmer of hope for longer than expected. However, not in a way that any of the fans would prefer: instead of holding on to the show a little longer, The CW is simply postponing its release.

Superman & Lois, starring Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as the titular characters, has been on the air since 2021. Its renewal for season 4 was in jeopardy due to the wave of cancellations that The CW went through, but with a budget cut and many changes in the regular cast, it was allowed to wrap up the story properly.

With all that in mind, fans were sure they'd see the show return in the spring of 2024, along with all the other original content that had to be delayed due to the strikes. However, Superman & Lois is nowhere to be found on the network's schedule. What happened and when will it return?

Superman & Lois Season 4 Release Date

So far, there is no official release date for the final season of Superman & Lois. However, according to The CW's President of Entertainment, Brad Schwartz, the decision has been made to delay the premiere until the fall. While the difficulties in post-production play a role in this decision, it also has a deeper meaning.

Since this will be the finale, the network wants to put it in the spotlight so the show gets all the love and attention it deserves. Schwartz addressed the issue in a comment to TVLine.

“I am not kidding, this season is going to be one of the best shows on TV. <...> Because of all the special effects, it could be ready for summer, [but] we feel like it would be wasted in the summer. So let’s put it in the fall where we can sell it in the Upfront [and] really, really talk about it,” he explained.

And just like that, fans of The CW's superhero content in general, and Superman & Lois in particular, are in for another long wait. On the one hand, the delayed premiere means a delayed goodbye, but on the other hand, another six months with beloved characters will only make it harder to let them go.
