The Handmaid’s Tale Fans Predict ‘Death Knell’ in Season 6 Episode 4

It’s been less than a week since The Handmaid’s Tale has returned to Hulu with its sixth and last season, but the show’s fans have already connected the dots regarding the next episode’s potential plot twist (and the dots say “death”).

The Handmaid’s Tale has been exploring the roller coaster relationships between Elizabeth Moss’ June Osborne and Max Minghella's Nick Blaine ever since season 1. The final season is yet to prove whether the characters are in fact couple material, though, ahead of a new episode airing tomorrow, some fans are reassured a major plot twist might interfere.

Fans Predict Nick’s Disheartening Fate in The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6

While many prefer to stay put in their position of wishing Nick and June nothing else but a happy ending, others suggest a typical heartbreaking plot twist might be used in the upcoming fourth episode.

“Now that Nick and June have finally acknowledged their feelings for each other, and found some kind of acceptance for their feelings for each other regardless of the fucked up circumstances that instigated those feelings, I’m predicting that Nick is soooo dead next episode. There’s no way around it”, Redditor Ok-Function2283 predicted.

They went on, explaining that the whole drama might get to a new level of tension once June’s former husband Luke is involved, becoming even more vile with his trauma not healing and June caring for Nick or grieving his loss if he’s in fact dead.

“Yeah Nick’s a goner. Sorry Nick/June shippers but I fear this episode may be the death knell”, the user concluded.

While many in the comment section didn’t quite agree with the theory, there were others who offered their slightly different, but still similar suggestion.

“Nick is definitely dead for the reasons you mention, whether its the next episode or later I am not sure”, FR_42020 wrote.

What Critics Say About The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 So Far

The show might have seemed like a terrifying perspective for the future a couple of years back, though now it’s getting even closer to reality — and this is where the critics’ raving reviews coincide.

“While it might be cathartic to watch June, Moira and others try to bring the government down, the show now might be too close to reality for our comfort”, Decider’s Joel Keller wrote.

“The Handmaid’s Tale understands how hard it is to dismantle a totalitarian system once its foundations are firmly in place, which makes it an especially timely reflection of the frustration and anger rippling across the country right now,” Vulture’s Jen Chaney wrote earlier.
