The Last of Us Game Ending, Explained

Tensions in The Last of Us are about to swirl even more when the show proceeds to the logical conclusion that has already taken place in the game. Here is how things will go if the adaptation sticks to the source.
The first episode of The Last of Us sophomore season has given a sneak peek into something gruesome that’s about to come, but that might only be the beginning.
Despite criticism for some decisions that distance it from the original game, the show carefully follows through the storyline and will likely give it an even bigger scale considering that a third season is already in the works.
This, however, leaves no doubt that you can easily find out what’s next for The Last of Us’ current instalment and even the following one — well, if you’re not scared of some spoilers, this is what everything should end with.
What Is Ellie Up to After Joel Is Killed?
Even though things didn’t end that well between the two, Ellie can’t help grieving Joel, and since she still considers him some kind of her father figure, she also has no other choice but to embark on a mission to avenge Joel’s death.
Having left the farm she lived on with Dina and her child that the latter shared with ex-boyfriend Jesse, Ellie goes all the way to the West, trying to track Abby down somewhere in California.
She does find her rival in Santa Barbara where Abby is captured and tortured, but Ellie frees her and calls out for a fight. However, when Ellie nearly kills Abby, she suddenly chooses to let her go, deciding to break the cycle of violence that took everything and everyone from her.
The Last of Us Final Scenes, Explained
After parting ways with Abby, Ellie returns home only to find out that Dina and her child are gone.
Haunted by the memories from the past, she tries to play guitar, which is a long-standing symbol of her connection to Joel, though she isn’t able to — Ellie loses her two fingers on the way and since then can’t even do that to honor her former guardian.
In the video game’s final scene, Ellie leaves the guitar and starts walking away in an unknown direction.
When Is The Last of Us Next Episode Being Released?
The second season’s episode 2 is coming to Max on April 20; the remaining five episodes are set to arrive one by one every Sunday.
