According to MangaMoguraRE on X, during the Anime Central (ACen) convention, one of the show's directors, Hirotaka Mori, revealed that he was heavily inspired by the aesthetic of The Last of Us. Mori is a huge fan of the game and even asked his team to make Heavenly Delusion look similar.
Heavenly Delusion transports us to a paradise in the middle of a monster-infested wasteland. There are two worlds (heaven and hell, if you will), there are secrets to be uncovered and sacrifices to be made. Heavenly Delusion is dark, gorgeously animated, and deliciously metaphorical.

Heavenly Delusion's world-building gives off serious abandoned city vibes we love from The Last of Us (both games and the show).
The whole dynamic between the characters is something you'll appreciate as well. It's not exactly Joel and Ellie, but the show nails the protective relationship between its leads and you'll find yourself getting invested. The story also goes places you wouldn't expect.
