Final scene of The Last of Us’ latest episode paves the way for another major fight that might involve both Abby and Ellie, but at least one party’s backstory remains shrouded in mystery. Here’s everything you need to know.

The Last of Us’ most recent episode might not have been rich in action, but it still set up a potentially bloody fight between radical groups introduced in several scenes.

The show hasn’t really featured neither the Seraphites nor the WLF members so far, now making it clear that the upcoming war between the two groups will somehow cross paths with Ellie looking for Abby in Seattle.

However, The Last of Us is yet to tell much more about both sides, especially since the Seraphites’ encounter with Abby in the original video game is another point of no return in her rivalry with Ellie.

Who Are the Seraphites and What’s That With Their Face Scars?

The Seraphites are a religious cult, commonly known as Scars, which is explained by specifically shaped scars on their faces.

The members of the group tend to believe in the Prophet and have been at war with the Washington Liberation Front (aka WLF) for the control over Seattle; both parties have had several attempts to make peace and hold the ceasefire, but there’s always someone to break the truce and reignite the conflict again.

All Seraphites have a couple of distinctive scars on both sides of their faces, which is a mandatory ritual when a new member wishes to join the cult.

By cutting their face and letting the scars heal on their own, the Seraphites follow the Prophet’s idea of every human holding its own imperfections no matter what.

How Abby’s Storyline Connects to Seraphites, Explained

Even though she has yet to meet them in the HBO series, in the video game Abby’s path goes into a very different direction when she saves two Seraphite runaways Yara and Lev.

They later join Abby as she continues to seek ways to kill Ellie, with Lev eventually playing a key role in the outcome of Ellie and Abby’s first encounter after Joel’s death.

In the meantime, the Seraphites are after Abby too, trying to bring her to justice for supporting WLF.

Ultimately, she abandons her own people and leaves for California with Yara and Lev, finding her new purpose in taking care of her companions.
