‘The Simpsons’ Producer Explains Marge’s Fate After Death Scene: “There Is No Canon”

The major plot twist was quite a shocker in The Simpsons’ latest episode, but Marge was actually never in danger — here’s why she probably never will be until the very end of the series.
Things got quite shaky in The Simpsons’ season 36 finale, somehow causing a panic among fans more than a month after the episode’s release, but it seems like there’s been nothing to worry about all along — and there never will be.
In the episode that aired back in May the Simpson family seemingly goes through a major change years after the show’s normal timeline, revealing that Bart and Lisa drifted away for long enough only to reunite at their mother’s funeral.
Marge’s passing was never expected to happen in the series in the first place, but the issue was quickly resolved by The Simpsons’ creators who have now hinted that Marge’s death will actually never happen in the show anyway.
‘The Simpsons’ Producer Says Marge “Will Probably Never Be Dead Ever Again”
Despite The Simpsons boasting of a huge number of flash-forward and not that realistic episodes, fans took the scene with all seriousness, speculating whether Marge’s death will now become a canon in the show’s future seasons.
“There is no canon. ‘The Simpsons' doesn't even have canon! Obviously, since 'The Simpsons' future episodes are all speculative fantasies, they're all different every time. Marge will probably never be dead ever again. The only place Marge is dead is in one future episode that aired six weeks ago”, The Simpsons’ producer Matt Selman revealed in a recent interview with Variety.
What Was the Thing With Marge’s Death Then?
In season 36’s episode 18 titled “Estranger Things” everything goes wrong at the moment when Marge decides to bring Itchy and Scratchy-themed products to her younger daughter Maggie, which somehow triggers Bart and Lisa who have considered themselves huge fans of the show until this very moment.
Now thinking that Itchy and Scratchy is nothing more than a children's TV series, Bart and Lisa turn to their own TV favorites, forcing Marge to imagine the worst now that her older kids don’t have anything in common.
She then starts fantasising about what will happen years later when her kids will reunite at her funeral years after going their separate ways.
Marge’s death and funeral are thus nothing but her imagination, while in reality she’s well and pretty much alive.
