James Reece has been gone four years and four months. Amazon built an entire second show to cover the gap.

The wait ends Wednesday: all eight episodes of The Terminal List season 2 drop on Prime Video on October 21, in more than 240 countries at once. Chris Pratt returns as James Reece in a season adapting True Believer, the second novel in ex-Navy SEAL Jack Carr's book series, with Carr executive producing and David DiGilio back as showrunner.

The math of the gap is the story. Season 1 premiered July 1, 2022; the renewal came in February 2023; filming wrapped on October 1, 2025. Which means the finished season has been sitting on Amazon's servers for a full year while the release date — eventually confirmed by Pratt himself at Prime Video's Upfront — got sorted.

"As new evidence emerges, Reece discovers dark forces working against him."

Season 1 was the house's favorite kind of hit: critics were cold, the audience was not, and Amazon has called the debut record-breaking ever since.

The Dark Wolf bridge

Amazon's solution to a four-year hiatus was more show. The Terminal List: Dark Wolf — seven episodes, August 27 to September 24, 2025 — rewound the clock to follow Ben Edwards, which conveniently let Taylor Kitsch keep playing a character season 1 had already killed. A prequel, it turns out, is how you keep a dead fan favorite on payroll. Carr says it hit #1 on Prime Video, and he published a prequel novel, Cry Havoc, the same year; this franchise does not believe in dead air.

Who's in, who's carried over

  • Returning: Chris Pratt as Reece; Constance Wu as journalist Katie Buranek.
  • Promoted from Dark Wolf: Tom Hopper as Raife Hastings.
  • New faces: Dar Salim, Luke Hemsworth, and Gabriel Luna as Freddy Strain, a name True Believer readers will recognize.
  • The Rogan reveal: Arnold Vosloo plays Rich Hastings — a casting Carr announced on The Joe Rogan Experience rather than in a press release, which tells you precisely who this show is marketed to.
  • Recurring: Martin Sensmeier, Costa Ronin, Edwin Hodge and Caitlin Bassett.

The trailer leans global — the revenge spree of season 1 gives way to espionage across borders, closer to what Carr's later books do anyway.

A finished season that waited a year on the shelf — in streaming, even a terminal list has a queue.

The real test is whether momentum survives a four-year pause. Dark Wolf's numbers say the audience stayed; October 21 says Amazon is confident enough to drop everything at once and let the binge do the talking.
