The kids are grown enough to have their own Big Bang Theory-style sitcom!

Summary

  • Young Sheldon 's upcoming Season 7 will be the final one, ending the show's 6-year run.
  • Over the years, the cast has not only become as close as the TBBT cast, but they've also come a long way in their careers.
  • Many of them were just kids when the show debuted, but now they are on solid career ground.

Tomorrow, February 15, CBS will premiere the seventh season of Young Sheldon, which will be the final chapter in the story of the title character, his family, and possibly The Big Bang Theory saga as a whole.

In more than six years on the air, the story of the Cooper family has evolved from a sidekick project to a major family drama that, despite the plot connections, could very well be considered a stand-alone series with no ties to The Big Bang Theory. Instead of an ode to the geek culture of the 00s-10s, we got a profound story of love, friendship, mutual support and forgiveness... and an ode to the geek culture of the 90s!

Just think about it, six years! Sure, many shows can run for 10 or 20 years and even remain relevant (just look at the procedurals on CBS and NBC). Young Sheldon, however, has carved out a huge niche in the lives of both viewers and the cast and crew themselves.

The child and teen actors in particular have come a long way, as they are no longer kids, and some of them are now grown adults. Let's take a quick retrospective look at the talented young actors for whom Young Sheldon was a breakout project and see how they've changed over the years.

Iain Armitage

Prior to his debut on CBS, the boy first appeared on the reality show Impractical Jokers in 2014 at the age of 6. Two years later, he appeared as a guest judge on the variety show Little Big Shots.

However, in terms of his acting career, Armitage debuted in three feature-length dramas released in 2017: The Glass Castle with Brie Larson, Naomi Watts, and Woody Harrelson; Our Souls at Night with Robert Redford and Jane Fonda; and I'm Not Here, in which Armitage shared a role with Sebastian Stan and J.K. Simmons.

Raegan Revord

Raegan Revord took over the role originally played by Courtney Henggeler and managed to fill another actor's shoes as effectively as Armitage did Jim Parsons'. While Revord is only six months older than Armitage, she appeared on television in 2015 at the age of 7. By the time of Young Sheldon, the 9-year-old actress was no longer a stranger to the cameras.

Montana Jordan

Sheldon and Missy's older brother is now 20 years old! The first step in his acting career was the comedy-drama The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter, where Jordan played the son of the character portrayed by Josh Brolin. However, even though the shooting took place in 2015, the movie premiered in 2018, after the release of Young Sheldon.

Mckenna Grace

McKenna Grace, who plays another child prodigy, Paige Swanson, may be the most recognizable name on the list. The actress has gone on to star in many popular projects, including The Young and the Restless and The Vampire Diaries. In 2017, the movie Gifted was released, in which she also played the role of an intellectually gifted child opposite Chris Evans. She went on to star in horror series on Netflix, the MCU movies, and was nominated for an Emmy for her role in The Handmaid's Tale. She is now 17 years old and her career is as high profile as, say, the Stranger Things alumni.

Wyatt McClure

McClure, who plays the role of Sheldon's bully (who, it turns out, wasn't really a bully at all), is the same age as Armitage, but he began his acting career in 2014. Now, his career is gaining momentum as he participated in Disney 's The Santa Clauses.
