We wouldn’t change a thing.

Summary:

  • The Big Bang Theory was a hit CBS sitcom that ran for 12 seasons from 2007.
  • The show followed the lives of 4 scientist friends trying to make it in life and their hot aspiring actress girlfriend Penny.
  • To this day, fans believe that TBBT achieved a perfect finale by simply not making it feel so final.

There is a reason why The Big Bang Theory remains so beloved by fans around the world. The show did a great job of making viewers feel like they were part of the gang, no matter when or where they were watching.

Through the eyes of the most "normal" person there, Penny, the audience got to know the quirky yet fascinating world of nerdy scientists and all their problems. Which, to be honest, aren't all that different from the challenges any other person faces on a daily basis.

While it was great to feel so close to the characters throughout the show's run, it was this parasocial friendship with fictional characters that made people so afraid of the finale. The show was meant to go out with a bang, and audiences feared that the writers wouldn't perform as well under pressure.

Fortunately, they couldn't have been more wrong.

How Did The Big Bang Theory End

The approach that the creative team behind The Big Bang Theory took to ending the series has paid off in the long run.

Although there is no way to avoid the natural feeling of sadness that comes when it's time to say goodbye to all your beloved characters, the series finale is relatively easy to watch again.

Unlike many other sitcoms, such as Friends or New Girl, where the characters clearly have a whole new chapter ahead of them, The Big Bang Theory's grand finale doesn't leave viewers with the heavy feeling of someone moving on without them. Instead, it ends exactly where it began: on a couch, with plenty of takeaway food to share.

Rather than feeling left in an empty apartment behind a closed door, viewers actually feel they are still there, included in whatever journey life takes Leonard, Sheldon, Howard, Raj, Penny, Bernadette and Amy.

The decision to end the show with a Nobel Prize ceremony was a great one, as it allows the characters, as well as the audience, to experience the highest of highs, and then slowly return to normal. Nobel or not, life goes on and no one takes away the slightest hope of seeing the gang all together again in the future.

To this day, many fans of The Big Bang Theory say that there isn't a single thing about the finale that they would want to change. If that's not the best testament to the show's finale, we don't know what is.
