It might have been the only moment in the show that made the author consider rewriting his Fire & Blood.

The author of the book series that eventually spawned the most successful TV show in the last couple of decades, George Martin has spent some serious time picking up fights with Game of Thrones ’ creators whose artistic decisions sometimes would go way beyond the original books’ storyline.

Quite the same continues with the series’ prequel House of the Dragon as Martin himself has repeatedly slammed the show’s production team for significantly altering his story.

However, there was at least one major change that the author admitted had surpassed his novel Fire & Blood.

George Martin Thinks Paddy Considine's Portrayal of Viserys Targaryen Deserved an Award

With all the issues the writer might be having with House of the Dragon’s creators and showrunners, the series made one change so much better that it eventually led to a rare occasion when Martin even considered his source material inferior to the show it’s based on.

In his recent interview with Collider, the author revealed he loved the way House of the Dragon made Viserys Targaryen’s role way more important than in Fire & Blood.

“The character of Viserys Targaryen is very minor in my book and not but they got Paddy Considine to play him. And he was robbed, he should have won an Emmy. It was really amazing. Amazing. And his character... his Viserys is so much better than my Viserys. It made me want to go back and rewrite the book, but I didn't. But that can happen toot”, Martin stated.

George Martin’s Latest Adaptation Bombed Both Critically and Commercially, Despite His Praise

While House of the Dragon’s upcoming third season is about to enter its full production mode, George Martin was keeping busy with another big promo campaign.

The proclaimed author has just had his new adaptation In the Lost Lands released in theatres, though the movie has failed significantly with both critics and viewers, despite the high praise that Martin had offered for it several days prior to the premiere.

Based on the writer’s short story of the same name, In the Lost Lands starring Milla Jovovich and Dave Bautista quickly went into complete disgrace after its theatrical release on March 7, grossing $1.4 million against the initial budget of $55 million.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film owns disheartening scores of 23% and 45% from critics and audiences respectively.
