Disturbing — but gripping.

When The Net hit theaters in 1995, the internet was still mostly for tech geeks, and the word 'browser' sounded like a strange new spell. But, trust me, 30 years later, this film plays more like a chilling prophecy.

Sandra Bullock plays Angela Bennett, a lonely programmer who discovers a government conspiracy — and gets her life digitally erased. Her records vanish, no one recognizes her, and strangers show up in her home like it’s theirs. Sounds like Black Mirror? That’s exactly how it plays today.

What was once a tech thriller full of floppy disks and UNIX commands has aged into something disturbingly relevant. Watching it now, I was surprised how accurate it all feels — online surveillance, data breaches, identity manipulation… all the stuff we just live with now.

Back then, the studio reportedly had to explain what the internet was just to get the movie made. Now, The Net looks like it saw the future coming — clearer than most of us wanted to admit.

It’s not perfect, but if you like 90s thrillers with a prophetic edge, this one’s worth a rewatch. Especially if you want to feel unsettled — in the best possible way.
