This ‘Harry Potter’-Themed Baking Show Is Your Perfect Watch Before the HBO Series

The Harry Potter movie franchise seemingly came to its end all the way back in 2011, but there was one more special edition TV series released last year that you might have missed.
Things have finally started moving forward for HBO’s so far untitled Harry Potter TV series that has recently found its leading ensemble, including the trio of young actors set to portray Harry, Ron and Hermione.
The show, the first season of which will air on HBO Max sometime next year, is expected to become a more faithful adaptation of JK Rowling’s book series, with each new instalment dedicated to a different novel.
However, with possibly more than a year being left until “Harry Potter”’s TV reboot makes it to HBO Max, the original movie franchise’s fans might be willing to fill the void with something related — which, apart from those films, also includes a culinary TV show released back in 2024.
‘Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking’ Is a Food-Inspired Spin-Off of ‘Harry Potter’
Hosted by Harry Potter movie series’ stars James and Oliver Phelps, who portrayed Fred and George Weasley respectively, the competition culinary show follows teams of professional bakers and pastry chefs.
Apart from coming up with ideas for new dishes inspired by the Wizarding World, they also have fan tours in the meantime, visiting Harry Potter’s iconic filming locations for places like the Great Hall at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Platform 9¾, Gringotts Wizarding Bank, and the Burrow.
Additionally, the show also witnessed some of Harry Potter’s actors coming as guest stars, with those being Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick), Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) and Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley).
With the first season consisting of six parts, Wizards of Baking was a big hit on both HBO Max and Discovery+, reaching more than 16 million viewers in total.
‘Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking’ Had a Fruitful Season 1 Last Year — and Is Already Renewed for Season 2
The series was released just on time for boosting “Harry Potter” fans’ nostalgia ahead of HBO’s upcoming TV remake, so no wonder Wizards of Baking will continue to test chefs’ creative skills with the franchise-inspired dishes in one more season.
“In collaboration with Warner Horizon and teams across all of WBD, ‘Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking’ harnessed the fandom of ‘Harry Potter’ and the power of Food Network as a holiday destination — delivering visually breathtaking cakes set against the backdrop of the beloved ‘Harry Potter’ film sets. Viewers and ‘Potter’ fans everywhere tuned in to see what these talented artists created each week, and we cannot wait to bring the audience an even more magical second season”, head of food content at Warner Bros. Discovery Betsy Ayala said in a statement shared by Variety back in January.
