This Time — It’s Official: New 'Pirates of the Caribbean' Will Feature the Old Guard After All, But There’s a Catch

The showrunners are still skillfully building suspense.
Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer has given a long-awaited update on the sixth film — and at the same time, poured some rum on the fire of fan hopes. In an interview, he confirmed: the new installment will not only feature new actors. That is, someone from the original cast will definitely return. But who exactly — remains a secret.
"You’ll have to guess," Bruckheimer said with a wink.
Such a response immediately sets the viewer’s mind spinning: what if... Jack? After all, rumors have persisted for years that Disney still wants to bring back Johnny Depp. And even though during the trial with Amber Heard, the actor insisted he wouldn’t return for any cursed chests of gold, the belief in Captain Sparrow’s comeback is just as much a part of the franchise as the phrase "I’ve got a compass, and it’s special."
According to Bruckheimer, the new film is not a direct sequel but a 'new take.' A reboot? Not exactly. A continuation? Also no. Something in between. The script isn’t ready yet, and casting is still underway. But one key detail: the story will unfold in the same universe, which means familiar characters will appear after all. It could be anyone — from Will Turner and Elizabeth to Barbossa, Gibbs, and even supporting characters like Ragetti with the wooden eye.
Naturally, fans are hoping for one thing above all: the return of Sparrow. Without him, any 'new take' risks feeling like a half-empty bottle of rum — familiar on the surface, but sadly far less satisfying than anyone would like.
