The long-awaited third instalment for Mike White’s hit anthology The White Lotus is finally here, and it’s already a promising continuation with another gripping story.

The new season’s first episode, dropped on Max on Sunday, gave its viewers a sneak peek into who they will be dealing with until the last episode arrives on streaming on April 6. Some characters are, as expected, troubled family members or couples with their own issues, but there’s a different set of newcomers at the exotic Thai resort that might become the centre of the entire season starting with the next episode.

Additionally, one of those characters, portrayed by Michelle Monaghan, is likely to turn into the actress’ best role yet, making up for her previously overlooked performance.

Since Michelle Monaghan’s Jaclyn is the one to pay all the expenses, she might get a dominant position in her relationships with Kate and Laurie; however, she isn’t the only wealth owner there as the episode also makes it clear that Kate is rich too and, once the tension is too high, she is likely to seek another way to distance herself from her friends while on vacation.

Monaghan’s Role in White Lotus Season 3 Is a Promising New Start After Her True Detective Appearance

The actress isn’t a stranger to big hits from HBO since she’s moved on to The White Lotus after starring in another anthology drama True Detective back in 2014.

Monaghan, however, fell victim to the series’ controversial issue that caused a lot of backlash for its first seasons; appearing in True Detective’s season 1, the actress portrays Maggie Hart who, among others, was considered one of the most poorly written female characters that ever showed up in the series.

Despite Monaghan’s great performance, her role falls lies flat due to its embodiment of the most vicious stereotypes about women on modern TV. The actress’ Jaclyn in White’s feverish drama is a breath of fresh air after True Detective’s betrayed Maggie.
