Tom Cruise has been a big Hollywood star for decades. Let’s find out just how big, shall we?

Here are the actor’s top five box office successes.

5. War of the Worlds (2005)

This Steven Spielberg film had Tom Cruise written all over it long before he was cast. With a budget of $132 million, this sci-fi action flick managed to gross $603.9 million by the end of its run. Based on H.G. Wells’s novel of the same title, the movie follows Ray, played by Cruise, who tries to protect his children in the midst of a hostile alien invasion.

4. Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015)

The fifth installment in the franchise had a hefty budget of $150 million. That didn’t stop it from becoming a major commercial success, earning $682.7 million at the box office. The movie also featured one of the most famous stunts in Cruise’s career – the scene where Ethan catches a plane (literally) is spine-chilling!

3. Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011)

The fourth movie in the spy saga was even more successful. With a slightly lower budget of $145 million, it took home $694.7 million. At the time, the film was the highest-grossing in the franchise, and it was praised by critics and viewers alike. The scene where Ethan climbs the Burj Khalifa is on a whole other level of iconic!

2. Mission: Impossible – Fallout ( 2018)

While everyone is still waiting for the release of the next installment next week, the sixth film remains the crown jewel of the franchise’s box office success. The film’s budget went up to $178 million, but it was a calculated move as the movie ended up grossing $791.7 million in the end. Phenomenal!

1. Top Gun: Maverick (2022)

1986’s Top Gun launched Tom Cruise’s career, and its sequel made sure the actor remained relevant in today’s cinema climate. With a budget of $177 million, the blockbuster made a whopping $1.496 billion and became one of the greatest legacy sequels in history. Some critics even called it better than the original.

Tom Cruise certainly has a lot to show for his decades-long career!
