…And no, it’s not about Danny’s potential love life, for once.

Summary:

  • Blue Bloods fans have long been waiting for Danny Reagan to start dating again after Linda’s death.
  • Recent Season 14 storyline revealed that Danny’s not troubled by not having a partner but by not having a child.
  • When an S13 teenage troublemaker reappeared and asked Danny for help, he went out of his way to aid her however he could.

Not all’s good with Danny Reagan, it seems. While Blue Bloods fans were largely focused on the detective's ever-upcoming love life with his partner Maria Baez, Danny himself was tormented by other problems — and the recent episode revealed them. It’s not his lack of partner that bothers Danny but his lack of someone to care for.

Blue Bloods Season 14 Saw an Unlikely Comeback

In TV shows, there are cameos, guest stars, and recurring characters… And then, there are the most unexpected returns you never thought possible — or reasonable, at that. Blue Bloods surprised the audience with one such appearance in Season 14 Episode 4, bringing back a largely forgotten tertiary character from Season 13.

When he first meets Trina, a young rebellious suspect and Danny and Maria’s S13 case, she doesn’t make the best impression on him but turns out to be innocent. This time around, the tables have turned as Trina reached out to Danny when her life began spiraling out of control, and the detective insisted on helping the girl despite Baez not being happy with his dedication to Trina’s defense.

Their unlikely antagonism in this case revealed Danny Reagan’s real problem.

Danny Doesn’t Have Someone He Would Care For

Danny Reagan, fighting with his partner over helping some rebellious ex-perp teenager he didn’t even like the first time around?.. There was clearly something personal for him in it, and Maria Baez saw right through him as she often does. As the two argued about Trina, Baez called Danny out on his real reason to help the girl.

Maria accuses Danny of being a frustrated parent who only saw a substitute child in Trina now that his own kids were all grown-up. Reagan tried to protest, but his partner was clearly right: the teenager’s ask for help awakened the father figure in Danny that had been involuntarily put to sleep, and that was why he was so obsessed with saving Trina from trouble.

Danny Reagan’s real problem is not his lack of a romantic partner — it’s his lack of someone to care for. Was this most recent episode another sign of Danny being ready to start anew and have a family again, years after his wife’s tragic death?
