It looks like the two popular teen mystery series have more in common than previously thought.

Both Teen Wolf and Riverdale can safely be described as teenage supernatural series dealing with high school life and solving mysteries, so the similarity between the two shows is not that surprising.

The same genre and themes may explain the likeness of some of the storylines in both series, but fans on Reddit recently discovered one thing that brings Teen Wolf and Riverdale even closer together — and for that matter, Riverdale proves to be heavily inspired by its werewolf-themed predecessor.

Viewers have noticed that Lydia Martin from Teen Wolf and Cheryl Blossom from Riverdale resemble each other so much, it's hard to tell the two characters apart.

Lydia Martin was introduced to viewers back in 2011, so people are almost certain that the CW series' writers decided to learn from their competitors and basically stole the outline for their heroine Cheryl.

One thing you notice right away is that both characters are redheads, but their appearance is not the only thing that makes them similar. Cheryl and Lydia are notoriously perfect academically, bringing home straight A's, and both are bossy and share the "mean girl" vibes.

Now, while this may certainly seem alarming, it's important to note that Lydia and Cheryl were very similar in the first seasons of their respective shows but then developed in very different directions, becoming quite original characters.

Despite the interesting parallels, some fans did not accept the idea and instead argued that every high school series has similar characters, and you can't accuse Riverdale of copying based on the fact that Lydia and Cheryl have the same hair color and a few common traits. The writers first introduced them as stereotypical mean girls but later developed the heroines more carefully, filling the characters with more original traits.

And to end the plagiarism argument forever, one fan pointed out that Riverdale is actually based on a very popular comic book that came out back in the mid-20th century and influenced all subsequent high school stories. So maybe the creators of Teen Wolf simply drew inspiration from Riverdale's source material?
