Will we ever hear the cherished “I’m your father!”?

Summary:

  • There is a chance that Buck could be Mel's father.
  • The most obvious choice for her biological father is not the most logical.
  • Many fans believe that the father will be brought into the show as a new character.

While the fans are still waiting for the second part of Virgin River season 5 to be released on Netflix, they don’t waste time just sitting there, but rather try to guess how the major cliffhangers will be resolved.

One of the most intriguing questions in the show now is who is Mel’s biological father, and fans want the holiday episodes to finally address it.

Reddit is full of theories on the matter, but there are still some unexpected ideas that have popped into people's minds, which however, do not seem that implausible if you think about it.

One of the recent theories that is gaining popularity is that Mel's father may no longer be alive. This brings us to Lily's late husband Buck. Many fans find this to be a very logical point of view, as it could actually explain why Mel is so drawn to the farm and to Lily and Buck's children, Chloe and Tara.

With that in mind, many fans are predicting the future of the show, if the story with Buck will prove to be true.

“I think it is Buck – therefore Mel and Jack buy Lily's farm. And I hope that they will adopt Chloe and that Mel won't be pregnant anymore. It would be great because in that way it would be shown that non-biological parents could be great parents and that adoption is not such a taboo,” Redditor LegRegular4454 said.

Well, even if it's not exactly what happens in the show, with Buck being the father, Mel will still get a new family and that's good for her.

Who Else Can Be The Father?

However, not everyone thinks that Mel's father should be someone who can no longer appear on screen, claiming that it just doesn't make sense to introduce a deceased man as a long-lost father and that it would ruin the logic.

The most obvious choice for the fans is Doc. Vernon Mullins is now Mel’s boss, as he is the local physician. He is mayor Hope’s husband, but the viewers believe he might have had something with Mel’s mother in the past.

The main reasons to believe that he is actually the father are, for example, his appropriate age, and the fact that their relationship grew from almost hatred to this real father-daughter-like dynamic. The fans grew fond of their duo, and having Doc as Mel’s real father wouldn't come as a huge surprise.

However, there are fans who are sure that this will never be the story for Mel, since Doc already found out about a kid he never knew existed. Giving him another one will just show the writers' lack of imagination.

There are also fans who believe that the father is someone new and will be introduced later in the series. However, he might not be a total stranger…

“The new character will have some sort of interesting connection to an already existing character or storyline that will make it an exciting and entertaining new plot. Like.. maybe her dad could be a relative of someone who lives in Virgin River that we already know? If it IS a new character.. I think it will be a character with a connection deeper than just being Mel’s biological father,” Redditor Jsscmurhog said.

Well, guess speculation is all we can do for now, since there's still a month to go before the holiday episodes hit Netflix. Until then, maybe we should binge-watch the last season of Virgin River and catch up on the clues the showrunners have given us?
