Sometimes it’s just better to get back to the roots.

Summary:

  • Virgin River is a Netflix hit based on Robyn Carr novel series of the same name.
  • The last two seasons of the show aired with 12 episodes each, however, the showrunner confirmed it won’t be the case moving forward.
  • The good news is that the show is still eyeing a return for season 7.

It's safe to say that two holiday specials from Virgin River were the best gifts the fans could have received. Those who somehow missed the news of the show's return in late November were pleasantly surprised to see an update, and those who knew were counting down the days until the release date.

Two hours of Christmas in Virgin River was just what the audience needed to put them in a good mood and tie up all the loose ends the show had left over from the first season. The good times didn't last long, however. Almost as soon as the episodes were over, fans began to wonder about the fate of the show.

The showrunner of Virgin River, Patrick Sean Smith, cleared the air in a recent interview with Deadline. Yes, the 6th season is on its way. It will probably start shooting this spring, weather permitting. Yes, there will be another time jump to speed things up a bit. Yes, there is still hope for season 7.

But there is also a big twist.

How Many Episodes Will Be In Virgin River Season 6?

When the show first started, the seasons premiered with 10 episodes each. This was the standard from the premiere through season 3. Season 4, however, was changed with two additional episodes, bringing the total to 12. It is worth noting that the last two episodes of season 4 were the best reviewed.

Now, with two additional holiday episodes for season 5, fans began to sense a new tradition coming their way. Smith, however, was quick to deny the rumors:

“I don’t know if I would do the holidays again. It’s sort of, been there done that, and I feel like we did it in a big way that I wouldn’t even know where to start to explore. I think we’re probably looking at a 10-episode season moving forward,” the showrunner said.

Holidays or not, there is no denying how great it feels to get more hours to enjoy your favorite universe. However, considering the trend of shortening seasons and canceling shows so early that fans don't even get a chance to get invested, Virgin River's situation still doesn't seem too disastrous.

If you are interested in seeing where Mel and Jack go in season 6 of the show, be sure to keep an eye out for more news and behind-the-scenes updates. In the meantime, you can binge-watch all of the previous episodes on Netflix.
