This touching and sincere project about a widower trying to start over is not based on real events, but seems to have been inspired by the actor's own fate.

Walton Goggins is now one of the main TV stars, but back in 2019 he was already a famous actor – behind him were Justified, working with Tarantino in The Hateful Eight and Django Unchained.

Walton Goggins Says The Unicorn Is Closer to Him That Any Other Project

That's why six years ago Goggins' participation in the CBS dramedy The Unicorn came as a surprise. However, this is the most personal project of his career. At least according to the actor himself. In the interview with CheatSheet Walton said:

“It hits home in a number of ways and it's more me than anything else I've played. That's maybe the biggest departure of this whole experience for me is it's closer to me than anything I've ever done.”

And these are not empty words to promote the series.

What Is The Unicorn About?

A group of friends help Wade (Walton Goggins) get his life back on track after the death of his wife. Now Wade is a slightly lost single father raising two daughters.

His friends tell him that he is the perfect single guy – a so-called "unicorn": hardworking, attractive, and with a great reputation. The people around him support the man and hope that he will find happiness again.

The Unicorn's Main Character Is Similar to Walton Goggins Himself

In 2004, Walton Goggins' wife, Leanne Kaun, committed suicide after a long battle with depression. Shortly before, she filed for divorce.

Goggins wanted to be a part of this story 00 honest and sentimental – about a widower raising two teenage daughters. Something similar happened to Goggins – and his friends saved him:

“I have in my own life experienced tragedy. And it was my community that helped carry me to a new place in life.”

However, a personal connection to the main character is not the only reason the actor agreed to participate.

The Unicorn Is One of the Few Projects Where the Actor Plays a Positive Character

The actor's extensive filmography contains virtually no positive roles – The Unicorn was supposed to fix this and give the world a friendly Walton Goggins.

This show about a cheerful widower is unlikely to go down in movie history, but it will certainly brighten your evening – it is a very sincere and funny story, without unnecessary sentimentality.
