Tired of explaining that Black Mirror might just be one the greatest sci-fi of the 21st century?

Black Mirror Season 7 came out today and your friend still refuses to even give it a shot. I feel that pain.

As someone who's made it their personal mission to hook as many people as possible on this wonderful show, I've had my fair share of side-eyes. Some think it's too unrealistic, while others dismiss it as another sci-fi with machines gone mad. Both couldn't be more wrong.

But don't get discouraged because I've got the perfect getaway episode that, in my experience, has changed opinions even of the biggest skeptics.

Nosedive Masterfully Pokes Fun at Our Social Media Obsession

Season 3 started off very strong with Nosedive as its first episode. A great cast led by Bryce Dallas Howard as Lacie Pound made the whole “it can definitely happen to us” ten times more real.

This episode, we dive into a world where your social status is determined by a five-star rating system. And if you were worried about your 4.90 Uber rating, you're going to have a lot of fun with this concept (as in, it will make you absolutely terrified).

Lacie’s life is totally controlled by the rating. She's trying to be at the top of her game every time she's out. And I get it. After all, her whole life depends on those digits. When she gets an invitation to a high-status wedding, she knows it's her fast track to the top...or is it?

Nosedive Is the Perfect Starting Point for a Black Mirror Newbie

Black Mirror can get pretty heavy (looking at you, White Christmas) but Nosedive maintains the balance between comedy and social commentary that makes it great for a first-time visitor.

The tech isn't some far-future fantasy either. I mean, don't we already obsess over how people see us? Especially when it comes to social media where it's easier than anywhere else to create a false identity, the one people will like.

What Do Fans Think About Nosedive?

  • On IMDb, Nosedive is rated 8.3/10.

“I’ve rewatched nosedive so many times and it’s usually with friends. I just love people's reaction to it and the story is just amazing,” Redditor Vcolbs shared.

“It's not dystopia. All you have to do is look at social media, upvotes and downvotes here [on Reddit] and on other sites with comments and you see this is already a reality. I mean Elon Musk cares about his social media feedback and image. And so many people are more and more focused on that than on real life,” Redditor DiverExpensive6098 wrote.

Where to Watch Nosedive Right Now?

If you're ready to introduce your friend to the wild world of Black Mirror, Nosedive is your golden ticket. It's streaming on Netflix right now, along with the entire new Season 7.
