The next season of the Tim Burton-produced horror-ish show is set to introduce a compelling new character, and they might have a direct connection to Wednesday’s season 1 mystery.

As the third season of Netflix’s Wednesday is about to start filming, the show’s fans are gathering once again to share their thoughts on what is about to happen next.

Wednesday’s season 2 has become a major turning point not only in the story of Nevermore Academy that is now threatened by Tyler’s return, but also in Wednesday’s relationship with her family that might have some secrets on its own.

Particularly, the second instalment’s episode 8 ended on an exciting revelation about Wednesday’s aunt Ophelia remaining in asylum at Grandmama Hester’s mansion and, well, writing quite menacing messages for her niece on the wall.

However, Wednesday’s fans believe Ophelia’s story might also serve as a major explanation for that mysterious storyline in season 1.

‘Wednesday’ Fans Believe Aunt Ophelia to Be Rowan’s Mother

Ophelia’s inscription “Wednesday must die” in the second season’s finale helped some fans connect the dots, which led them to a thought of Ophelia actually sharing her mindset with (possibly) her son Rowan who died in Wednesday’s season 1.

As Rowan himself reveals to Jenna Ortega’s character, he believes Wednesday must die because his mother, as well as her personal journal, told him so.

This directly connects to Ophelia’s prophecy on the wall, which, as some fans suggest, might have also played a crucial role in her imprisonment at her mother’s house.

“Grandmama must have heard about Ophelia making threats and stuff about Morticia and her family. Grandmama seeing how far gone Ophelia was, decided to lock her in the basement away from everyone to protect Morticia”, Redditor Efficient_Drop4175 wrote in the thread, adding that Hester Frump likely staged Ophelia’s death too.

Does Ophelia Really Hate Wednesday?

The fact that Ophelia keeps writing messages about her niece having to die doesn’t necessarily mean she personally hates Wednesday and wishes her death.

In this case, Ophelia’s prophecy connects to Wednesday’s vision of an Addams having to die to prevent an even bigger catastrophe in the future. It might be that Wednesday’s vision was a bit vague while Ophelia’s was talking specifically about Wednesday.

This is also explained by the fact that, just like her niece, Ophelia has psychic abilities as a “raven”, which is why she is likely having visions similar to the ones that Wednesday is experiencing.

However, this had a major impact on Ophelia’s mental state and resulted in a serious psychological breakdown, leading her to Grandmama’s basement.
