What happened to Eris in Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation? Season 3 opens with her side of the years apart
Eris exits at the end of season one with a note and no explanation, and the anime has spent two seasons following the person she left. Season three does the opposite for two full episodes.
Season 3 premiered July 4, 2026 from Studio Bind, with Ryōsuke Shibuya directing and 11 to 12 episodes, streaming on Crunchyroll. It opens on the Eris Training Arc — episode 1 is "Burn Bright, Mad Dog," episode 2 is "Bark, Mad Dog" — with Rudeus off screen entirely.
Why she left
The trigger is the fight with Orsted at the end of season one. Eris watched Rudeus nearly die and could do nothing about it, and concluded she had been carried through the entire journey rather than contributing to it. She left the next morning with a short note, the gist of which is that the two of them are not balanced and she is going away to fix that.
"You and I aren't well-balanced right now. I'm going on a journey," reads her note, in one common English rendering.
Ghislaine left with her and pointed her at the Holy Land of the Sword — the Sword Sanctum — as the only place that would push her fast enough.

What she did with the time
The short version is that she went and got strong, on purpose, for a specific man, under one of the most dangerous teachers alive:
- Training under Gal Farion — the reigning Sword God took her on directly.
- The rage problem — the season's early episodes are about breaking her habit of fighting on pure fury, with visiting masters widening her technique.
- Nina — a fellow student who runs the full rival-to-ally arc inside the first two episodes.
- Sword King — the rank she eventually reaches, one step below Sword Emperor.
- North Saint — a second title earned under North Emperor Auber, on top of the Sword God school's ladder.
- The duel — she eventually defeats Gal Farion, with Ruijerd's involvement, and is given the Phoenix Elegant Dragon Sword.
When she comes back
Not immediately. Season 3 splits its time between Eris's years away and Rudeus's settled life in Sharia — his family, his magic studies, Nanahoshi, Perugius's floating fortress, the enchanted prosthetic hand, and the trip to the Demon Continent that runs into the immortal demon king Atofe.
Eris rejoins the main story when Rudeus needs her against Orsted, and she goes to him after receiving his letter — the one in which he tells her he has married Sylphiette and Roxy, and asks her to be his third wife anyway. She says yes. They marry after the fight.
The arc exists because season one's ending only worked from one side. Rudeus read her departure as rejection and was left impotent by it for years. Eris had written the opposite letter.
For the record: in the long run she outlives most of the cast, has two children with Rudeus — Ars and Christina — is venerated as a war goddess in the religion that grows up around him, and dies at 70, after her daily training.
