What Will Quentin Tarantino’s Last Movie Be? Director Hints at New Ideas

Tarantino’s latest movie idea was reportedly scrapped around a year ago, but there’s a chance the director is already working on his last feature.
Quentin Tarantino’s movies are quirky enough for many who never considered the director’s work a part of their personal taste, but his long-standing career idea might be even quirkier.
At the dawn of his career decades ago, Tarantino made some sort of public promise that he would direct 10 movies only, with the idea itself consisting in his unwillingness to waste his filmmaking talent on a bunch of unworthy features.
Since then, he technically made 10 movies (Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Kill Bill Vol. 2 are separate films, though Tarantino counts them as one), but there’s still one more left before the director quits the industry for good.
However, even with all the news surrounding Tarantino’s recently penned movie starring Brad Pitt, the former will likely bring some good news about the tenth feature in the couple of upcoming years.
Quentin Tarantino Almost Directed ‘The Movie Critic’ As His 10th Feature Film
The director’s fans just couldn’t be more excited about any other news when it was reported that Tarantino was allegedly working on a script for his tenth movie titled The Movie Critic.
It was later revealed that the film, set in the 1970s, was supposed to become some sort of a spinoff for Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, featuring Brad Pitt’s character Cliff Booth as a central figure or someone connected to the mysterious movie critic.
Just weeks later, new reports suggested that Tarantino decided to scrap the film, with insiders implying that the director was struggling with the script he had to rewrite over and over again.
While the real reason for such a decision remains a mystery, fans believe that Tarantino’s idea of 10 movies only was what forced him to abandon the idea in a pursuit of a better story for the final film.
Quentin Tarantino Might Start Working on His Last Movie Next Year
While one of the director’s ideas might not have worked out for now, it seems like he already has a couple of different ones, but there’s another thing that stops him from coming back to the movies.
As Tarantino revealed back in January, he isn’t rushing things and is taking his time to prepare for filming his last feature, mostly because he wants to be there to see his kids growing up and to eventually bring them to the future movie’s set.
“The idea of jumping on a voyage when they’re too young to understand it is not enticing to me. I kind of want to not do whatever movie I end up doing until my son is at least 6. That way he’ll know what’s going on, he’ll be there, and it will be a memory for the rest of his life”, the director said at the Sundance Film Festival (shared by Variety).
Apart from that, Tarantino revealed that writing a theatre play is currently taking all of his time, but he doesn’t rule out a possibility of the feature becoming the basis for his next movie.
“I’m writing a play, and it’s going to be probably the next thing I end up doing. If it’s a fiasco I probably won’t turn it into a movie. But if it’s a smash hit? It might be my last movie”, he stated.
