Where is Crew Girl filmed? The real school behind Easton Prep takes visitors
Eagle's Cove, Massachusetts is an invention. The boarding school at the center of it has a street address, a gift shop, and a café.
Crew Girl premiered on Netflix on September 14, 2026, following transfer student Teagan Tao (Miku Martineau) into an elite prep school's all-boys crew program after a family scandal. It is set in coastal New England. It was shot entirely on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, between September 8 and November 21, 2025.
Easton Prep is Hatley Castle
The school exterior — and most of what reads as old-money New England — is Hatley Castle, on the Royal Roads University campus in Colwood, just outside Victoria. It is a 40-room Tudor Revival mansion built between 1908 and 1913 for James Dunsmuir, then Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, designed by Samuel Maclure and set on a 565-acre estate. The formal gardens were laid out by Boston landscape architects Franklin Brett and George D. Hall. It has been a National Historic Site of Canada since July 6, 1995.
Showrunner Vivian Lin called shooting there "a once-in-a-lifetime experience," in Netflix's own 2026 location feature.
The castle has been carrying this kind of work for decades: Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters in the X-Men films, the Luthor mansion in Smallville, the Queen estate in Arrow, plus Descendants and Bones.

Royal Roads keeps Hatley Park open to the public. The estate is at 2005 Sooke Road, about 25 minutes from downtown Victoria, with guided walking tours available and the Habitat Café on site. What's worth the trip:
- The Japanese Garden — including the teahouse, the oldest of the three formal gardens.
- The Italian Gardens — the formal terracing directly behind the castle.
- The Rose Garden — the third of the estate's named gardens.
- The trails — 260 hectares of walking, hiking, and biking routes, with views across the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the Olympic Mountains.
Five full-time gardeners and an arborist maintain the grounds. The three formal gardens account for under five percent of the campus.
Where the rest of it was shot
Eagle's Cove itself is downtown Sidney and its waterfront, about half an hour north of Victoria. The rowing was split between Elk/Beaver Lake and the Gorge Waterway, and getting it on camera required building equipment that did not exist.
"We built this huge barge that holds our crew and gear, and we strapped the 67-foot boat to it," Lin told Netflix in 2026.
Drone units picked up the wider shots, and the crew also towed shells to get tight angles. Great Pacific Media produced, Simon Barry and Jacquie Gould directed the first two episodes, and Brad Creasser shot the series. Cast members were on the water eight to ten hours a day.
Production bills the rowing sequences as the first eight-person crew footage shot by a Canadian production. The lake they filmed on is a municipal park with a public boat launch.
