The Sandman’s regular since season 1, Lyta Hall got a major update in the show’s second instalment after her connection to the DCU was revealed. Here’s what you should know about Hyppolyta and her role in The Sandman.

Based on Neil Gaiman’s comic book series that was launched all the way back in 1989, Netflix’s The Sandman is a major hit just because its lore is able to be intriguing for all sorts of fans out there.

Though the comic books initially rely on Greek mythology, it eventually starts blending in other countries’ cultural codes and even already known superhero stories that unfold within The Sandman’s universe.

In particular, both the original source material and the TV adaptation have been long hinting at Lyta Hall’s mysterious superhero-ish past which received a subtle confirmation in The Sandman’s season 2.

Who Is Hippolyta in ‘The Sandman’?

In the show’s season 1, Hippolyta is introduced as Lyta Hall, a recent widow and a friend of Rose Walker who gets some help from Lyta while looking for her brother.

With time, Rose’s power makes Lyta’s dreams feel all the way more real, with the latter eventually ending up pregnant with her late husband’s child after dreaming way too much of him.

When Lyta gives birth to a baby boy, she starts fearing that, since her child was conceived in the Dreaming, Dream aka Morpheus would one day decide to come and take him away from her.

In The Sandman season 2, Dream does pay a visit to Lyta, though it’s not his decision to take the boy that became the most shocking plot twist in the entire instalment.

Lyta’s Real Name Connects Her to the DCU

In the second season’s first part, a scene depicting Lyta and Dream’s encounter throws a major update on the character’s background story when Morpheus calls Lyta by her full name, Hippolyta.

Since Neil Gaiman’s comics also belong to DC’s collection of comic books, fans quickly connected the dots, realizing that Lyta is none other than Hippolyta, the daughter of the classic DC hero Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor.

While Lyta might just be Hippolyta’s alteration in The Sandman’s universe, the DC comics’ character eventually becomes a superhero herself, going on missions under the name of Fury and later joining a superhero team called Infinity.

When Will ‘The Sandman’ Finale Be Released?

The show’s season 2 volume 2 will arrive on Netflix on July 24.
