MobLand spent seven episodes convincing me the Harrigans were the apex predators of London — Pierce Brosnan glowering, Helen Mirren scheming, Tom Hardy's Harry Da Souza fixing everything short of the weather. Then episode 7, "The Crossroads," happened, and the show casually revealed that all of these terrifying people are, on the global org chart, middle management.

Enter Kat McAllister. On a private jet. Reviewing financial documents. Sixty seconds of screen time, total rearrangement of the food chain.

The phone call heard round the underworld

Quick recap of the nightmare in progress: cartel boss Jaime Lopez, working with Richie Stevenson, has Brendan and Seraphina Harrigan on a live execution feed while their family watches from the Cotswolds. Harry can't get there in time. So he does the thing he's clearly been avoiding all season — he reaches out through Donnie, the mystery man who'd been sniffing around for him, and gets Kat on the line.

Brendan is already gone. But Kat makes one call, and Jaime — a man who chainsaws people on camera — simply stops. As Screen Rant noted, a cartel boss answers to her by first name and obeys without argument, which tells you everything about where she sits. The price? Harry now owes her. And a favor owed to Kat McAllister is clearly the most expensive currency on this show.

The Gentlemen: what happens to Freddy? Daniel Ings calls season 2 Freddy "very, very serious"

So who is this woman?

The official character description that ran when The Hollywood Reporter broke her casting called Kat "as charming as she is violent," adding that crime bosses from London to Beijing avoid crossing her. Season 2 materials sharpen it further:

  • an international cartel operative with history tying her to Harry;
  • upgraded to series regular for the new season;
  • flagged in Paramount+'s own cast guide as the expected major antagonist.

Even the show knew what it had before she appeared: in "Antwerp Blues," just hearing Kat's name made Harry — Tom Hardy's professionally unbothered fixer — visibly flinch.

The McTeer factor

And of course she's played by Janet McTeer, because if you need someone to out-menace Mirren and Brosnan with a phone and a smile, you hire the woman with a Tony, an Olivier, and two Oscar nominations. Ozark fans already know what she does with elegant menace. With season 2 premiering this week and a third season already locked, Kat isn't a cliffhanger cameo anymore — she's the storm the whole series is sailing into. Harry, babe, start saving up favors.
