Who Plays Neville Longbottom in the 'Harry Potter' TV Show?
HBO’s Harry Potter reboot series found its leading ensemble as the production for season 1 has already started. Here’s everything we know about the young actor who will replace Matthew Lewis as Neville Longbottom.
It’s time for JK Rowling’s Harry Potter to get back to Hogwarts ahead of all the upcoming adventures as HBO’s reboot series has already entered its production phase.
Now pushed to a 2027 release, the show’s first season will be entirely based on Rowling’s “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”, featuring an all new set of actors with Dominic McLaughlin as the lead.
Apart from the story’s regulars, HBO’s Harry Potter has also found its own Neville Longbottom, as well as many other young actors for recurring roles.
So far the choice didn’t disappoint.
Rory Wilmot Will Portray Neville Longbottom in HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Series
The upcoming series will become the first major role for Wilmot, though he could be previously seen in a police procedural drama FBI: International, also being featured in Netflix’s upcoming miniseries Out of the Dust starring Sex Education’s Asa Butterfield.
Alongside Rory Wilmot, HBO has also recently cast Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander.
Louisa Brealey is mostly known for her role of Molly Cooper in BBC’s Sherlock while Anton Lesser gained recognition as Qyburn in Game of Thrones and Lio Partagaz in Andor.
Matthew Lewis Says Playing Adult Neville Would Be a “Whole Different Vibe”
The actor, who portrayed Neville Longbottom throughout the movie franchise’s eight instalments, wasn’t much present on the screen since the last film was released back in 2011.
However, he wouldn’t mind looking at Neville as an adult years later, even though he might not be that interested in reprising the role after all.
“It's not something I'm looking at or want to do but would not turn my nose up at. I’d be very interested to see if it was Neville as an adult — a whole different vibe. That could be interesting. I would certainly look at that and consider it”, Lewis told People at the Harry Potter New York store last year.
The actor then added that, despite still keeping love for Neville, he would rather try something new in his career and not “stick with one thing”.
“I never know what's up next, and I love that”, he said.
