Ellie’s friend and Dina’s on-and-off boyfriend has become one of the major new figures in The Last of Us’ ongoing second season. Here’s what role Jesse will likely have in the finale and who portrays him throughout the show’s sophomore season.
The Last of Us’ second instalment is now just one episode away from another potentially shocking plot twist, with it likely picking up the story right where Ellie finally encounters Abby for the first time after Joel’s death.
Initially embarking on a solo trip, Bella Ramsey’s character is quickly joined by Dina, but there are more members of the Jackson community coming at their rescue soon.
In particular, the series has already proved that Jesse has been tracking Ellie and Dina down, following them to Seattle to seek vengeance for Joel as well.
Even though in the second season’s latest episode Jesse is nowhere to be found, he’ll likely become the whole reason for that upcoming shocking plot twist.

Who Plays Jesse in ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2?
In the show, the role of Jesse went to Young Mazino, an American actor who you could previously see in Netflix’s hit comedy drama Beef and in episodes of some other TV series like Tommy, Blue Bloods and New Amsterdam.
Having joined The Last of Us’ leading cast back in January of 2024, Mazino is currently getting a bigger role as the season’s finale approaches.
Who Is Jesse and What Happens to Him in ‘The Last of Us’? (Spoiler Alert!)
In both the HBO series and the original video game, Jesse is a leader of the patrol groups in Jackson who arrived in the town several years prior to Joel and Ellie.

One of the scarce survivors of the Cordyceps infection outbreak, Jesse moved to Jackson together with his parents, soon meeting Dina and starting to date her, as well as taking on the role of a border patroller.
Several years later, he was assigned as one of the leaders by Tommy’s wife Maria who allowed Jesse to go out on patrol all alone, letting both Tommy and Joel stay in town to help with other things instead.

However, things quickly change when Joel is beaten to death by Abby, prompting Jesse to join Ellie on her revenge quest and following her and Dina to Seattle without them knowing about it.
At some point, both Jesse and Ellie rush to rescue Tommy in Seattle’s Pinnacle theatre only to be ambushed by Abby who shoots Jesse right in the head and kills him instantly.

The second season’s finale will air on Max on May 25.
