Who went home on Dancing with the Stars' Yacht Rock Night? The week 4 elimination took out a name fans had pegged for the finale
The ballroom put on its captain's hat, cued up the soft rock — and then sent home the one contestant with a literal fan army behind him.
Taylor Hanson is out of Dancing with the Stars. On Tuesday's Yacht Rock Night — the fourth night of season 35, which most outlets file as week 3 because the premiere sprawled across two nights — the Hanson frontman and pro partner Britt Stewart were eliminated after a jive to Orleans' "Still the One" that the judges scored a season-low 18 out of 30.
On paper, the math checks out: last place on the leaderboard goes home. In practice, this is the boot nobody had penciled in. Hanson walked into this season as one of its biggest names, armed with a fanbase that has been mobilized since the MMMBop era and the kind of name recognition that usually drags a mediocre dancer deep into November. TVLine's recap said the quiet part:
"If Taylor could have emerged unscathed from these wobbly first few weeks, I really do think he could have been a contender for the Season 35 endgame."
The problem was the wobble itself. Hanson kept dancing like a man doing long division — choppy arms, grave expression, visibly in his head — and Yacht Rock Night, a theme practically engineered for a soft-rock musician, was the one week he couldn't afford to sink.
The night by the numbers
- Amber Glenn & Pasha Pashkov — 24/30. The figure skater pulled the season's first eights.
- Harry Shum Jr. & Jenna Johnson — 24/30, keeping the frontrunner conversation a two-couple race.
- Maura Higgins & Mark Ballas — 22/30, the Love Island alum continuing her stealth climb.
- Taylor Hanson & Britt Stewart — 18/30, bottom of a thirteen-couple leaderboard for the second straight week.
Britt's very bad year continues
The exit hit Stewart hardest. The pro — who was sent home in week one last season with Baron Davis — visibly crumpled when the result came down, apologizing to her partner on air:
"Oh my God. I'm so sorry."
Hanson, for his part, left like a man relieved to return to a job where nobody scores his timing. Twelve couples sail on; next week's theme and the first perfect-score watch arrive Tuesday on ABC and Disney+.
