Marvel’s movies can bring a beloved character back to the screen, but it can also take them away just as easily — and forever.

2019’s Avengers: Endgame was a bit too tragic for true fans of the superhero team, but the upcoming two movies about Avengers’ new missions might be all the way more disheartening.

Since there’s now a new major villain to protect the entire universe from coming in Doomsday, the Avengers will likely come out as winners in the fight with Doctor Doom, but not without some sacrifices.

Now that the movie is more than a year away, Marvel’s fans think they might shed another tear while watching — here are some theories about who is likely to die in either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.

Madame Web

Despite Marvel’s next movies centring on Avengers once again, some fans suggested Spider-Man’s multiverse will show up at some point, possibly setting up another story for Madame Web’s own narrative.

“They’re gonna kill off Madame Web, then Sony will bring her back and do Madame Web resurrections where Kraven and Morbius have to bring her back”, a user wrote in a Reddit thread.

Red Guardian

According to some fans’ own versions, Thuderbolts’ team will go short of its members for the sake of the story led by Yelena Belova, who in the MCU is portrayed by Florence Pugh.

“Various Thunderbolts die, maybe Sentry dies early to powerscale Doom, Red Guardian dies to progress Yelena's story”, lkodl commented.

Shuri/Black Panther

Now the new Black Panther in Marvel’s universe after Chadwick Boseman’s tragic death, Shuri takes over the role of Boseman’s T'Challa who, however, might be replaced by his recently introduced son.

As some fans also predicted, Shuri won’t survive the fight with Doctor Doom just to cede her place to a new leader.

Wong

Doctor Strange’s trusted friend, Wong might also sacrifice himself, prompting Strange to seek revenge and thus setting up a new mission for the character.

“Wong dies to set up Strange as Sorcerer Supreme”, lkodl predicted.

Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier

Played by Sebastian Stan, Bucky Barnes is one of Marvel’s vets when it comes to a number of movies he appeared in.

With that in mind, some fans also think he might follow Tony Stark’s suit, now being one of the leaders in the superhero team and one of the most developed characters in the franchise.

Charles Xavier/Professor X

A character that has already been killed several times and still got back to life, Professor X is one of the X-Men’s fiercest protectors, so it won’t be surprising to see him turning into a shield for other superheroes.

Also considering how powerful Professor X is in the MCU, he will likely become one of the first people for Doctor Doom to go after.

Magneto

Just like Professor X, Ian McKellen’s character will do whatever it takes to protect the X-Men in the upcoming fight with Doctor Doom, so he might also join the former for the one last battle.

Hulk

Also one of the longest-running characters in Marvel’s movies, Hulk might be stepping down for two potential new characters that would continue his legacy.

“I can see Hulk going now that they introduced his son. And maybe antman or Hawkeye with their kids taking their place”, Hayder_22 wrote.

“Bruce Banner may die and get replaced with She Hulk if they still are including her in the MCU”, RevealActive4557 chimed in.

Loki

Marvel’s TV series about the character has given a major update on Loki’s personality, making him the multiverse’s protector, which is also why Doctor Doom might be after him as well.

Like many fans already predicted, Robert Downey Jr.’s new character will seek ways to find power and create Battleworld, so Loki is definitely the first figure to eliminate on the way to his goal.

Thor

According to Marvel’s many fans, Chris Hemsworth’s character has been in the universe for long enough to become everyone’s favorite, so he’s one of the most likely figures to fall victim to Doctor Doom.

“Thor reunited with Loki after believing him dead only to die himself would be a sad end to Thor's arc”, MettaWorldPeece commented.

“As a Thor fan I fear Thor will die. Doom did kill Thor as God Emperor in Secret Wars, and this will lead to Secret Wars. Chris has also been in the MCU for a while, I think he’s end could come soon. That being said I don’t want him to die, I think there’s a lot of Thor’s story left”, LaBamba338 agreed.

Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are coming to theatres worldwide on December 18, 2026, and December 17, 2027, respectively.
