HBO’s idea of turning J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter novels into a new TV series might have not been met with much enthusiasm, but the latest news suggests some fans will likely change their mind after all.
The upcoming show, the first season of which is now set to premiere sometime in 2026, has recently made a casting announcement for the golden trio, revealing the three actors who will portray Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
Arabella Stanton Is New Hermione in HBO’s Harry Potter TV Series
The actress will also be joined by Dominic McLaughlin, who will portray Harry Potter, and Alastair Stout, who will play Ron Weasley, as they’re about to get on Hogwarts Express to become the wizarding school’s freshmen.
A rising British actress, Stanton is mostly known for her stage roles at London’s West End, particularly in 2023’s Matilda The Musical and 2024’s Starlight Express.
The actress went through a harsh competition for the role of Hermione as the show’s casting directors spent months looking for right candidates among more than thirty thousand actors who auditioned.
“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen”, Harry Potter’s Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod said in a statement.

Despite some issues that the original movie franchise’s fans had with HBO’s previous casting decisions, things turned out pretty well this time around.
“The actress playing Hermione is SHOCKINGLY close to how I imagined her when I first read the books all those years ago. She’s even got the teeth! All three of them look wonderful”, Redditor DALTT rejoiced in a show-related thread.
