The Handmaid's Tale has brought back June's inner voice. Here's why now is the perfect time for this iconic comeback as the show approaches its finale.

After almost 6 intense years of resistance and survival, The Handmaid's Tale is approaching its grand finale. The last episode (Exodus) has already become a fan favorite, earning the highest rating of Season 6 on IMDb – 8.6/10.

While there are a lot of things to be credited for this success, there's one detail that the showrunners have done to further elevate Exodus. That seemingly small detail is none other than the long-awaited return of June's monologue.

June’s Inner Voice Is Making Its Grand Return to The Handmaid’s Tale

When June escaped to Canada in Season 4, her internal monologue that's been her constant companion through her years in Gilead suddenly fell silent. It made sense. She was finally free and didn't need that mental escape to keep going.

However, in the latest episode, June returns to the Gilead. And with her return came the revival of her inner voice. As soon as the rack of Gilead uniforms appears on a screen, the monologue starts. And honestly, this couldn't be a more brilliant timing.

It's perfect story-wise if you really think about it. By putting on that red dress again, June revisits her trauma, but this time as a leader rather than a victim. The uniform that once imprisoned her becomes her disguise and weapon.

Fans Reaction to June’s Inner Voice Returning Is Priceless

The audience has been asking for that inner monologue to return even before Season 6 came out.

“It worked so well. Her famous closeup face shots worked so much better when we had the juxtaposition of her narration because it wasn't just us looking at a face trying to interpret what's going on,” Redditor HoverTechV3 wrote.

So when it finally came back in Exodus fans were extremely happy.

“I LOVED how they resumed the music and inner monologs right as they went back to posing as handmaids. Could not have been more perfect,” another fan, birdie_bad_bones on Reddit shared.

When The Handmaid’s Tale Episode 9 Comes Out?
