Fans flock to first look of sequel, outpacing last year’s trailer.

Ozians set aside their panic for a day to celebrate the trailer launch of Wicked: For Good. Universal reported that the second-half trailer was viewed 113 million times in its first 24 hours — surpassing last year’s Wicked trailer, which had 75 million views in the same period. These numbers rival those of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and outpace recent blockbusters like Beetlejuice, Mufasa: The Lion King, and Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds. While Marvel’s Deadpool and Wolverine holds the record with 365 million views, the high trailer views signal strong audience excitement for the film’s return to Oz.

The two-and-a-half-minute trailer offers glimpses of key musical numbers like “No Good Deed” and “For Good,” the emotional centerpiece that gives the sequel its name. It also features Glinda and Fiyero’s wedding, flying monkeys, and iconic shots of Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow, and Cowardly Lion before the Wizard.

Before online release, Universal screened the footage at special one-night events across over 100 North American theaters. A teaser featuring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum was released on Instagram a day earlier — garnering 85 million views since Tuesday.

Set around the events of The Wizard of Oz, Wicked: For Good explores Elphaba and Glinda’s friendship tested by separation and Elphaba’s rise as the Wicked Witch. Following Part One’s $744 million global gross and multiple Oscar nominations, the sequel faces high expectations ahead of its Nov. 22 release.
