Wild 1923 Fan Theory Suggests Jamie Dutton's Parentage Isn't What It Seems
1923 is a prequel to Yellowstone that focuses on the lives of the previous generation of Duttons – with one exception.
It's not yet entirely clear how the story of Teonna Rainwater ties in with the Dutton family and the overall arc of the franchise.
And, as ever, that missing piece of the puzzle has got fans wondering what it's all about. And one particularly wild theory suggests that Teonna may be somehow linked to the parentage of Jamie Dutton.
Jamie, of course, was adopted by John Dutton (Kevin Costner) early on in his life and little is known of his ancestry. What we do know is that his father made an appearance in season 4 of Yellowstone and was killed by Jamie. But little is known about his birth mother.
So, with Teonna's story clearly important somewhere along the line, fans are speculating as to whether these two strands are connected. Some have even suggested that there actually be a blood link between the two that would ultimately render the whole adoption idea obsolete.
But what would be the point of that?
There is no doubt that Teonna is something of an enigma. But why introduce the whole backstory of Jamie's adoption – and bring in a father who, for all his faults, seemed to genuinely care for Jamie, just to go ahead and say to fans "Hey, none of that was necessary"?
The theory (in so much as it is one) is that Teonna becomes romantically (or at least sexually) involved with one of the Duttons in the next series and that one of the outcomes of that is Jamie. But even if they did, would it really change anything?
Jamie would still be the outlier in the family who was adopted - albeit from slightly closer to home. With this in mind, it would do little to heal the rift between him and Beth as that is rooted in his decision many years ago to have her sterilised against her will.
Ultimately, this fan theory (which is based more on a lack of knowledge about Teonna than any real evidence) would not change the dynamic of the show at all. There has to be more to the Teonna storyline than a fairly minor twist in the story Jamie Dutton's upbringing.
Without something substantial, her entire story would be a small sideline that took up far too much screen time. So, thanks for the rumour, Reddit, but it looks like you got this one wrong.
